Sony has announced that it is now taking pre-orders for the Xperia Z Ultra, a 6.4" FHD handset. While I think it's a novel design, and certainly will be the new "king" of the big screen handsets (especially considering its a full HD screen), I'm not sure this has enough appeal for most people. I love the Xperia Z for its ultra thin design... Read More
Sony has launched a new line of their Vaio laptops called the Pro 11/13 (a 11" version and a 13" version) which it touts as the lightest Ultrabook in its class. That's excellent timing! I'm potentially in the market for a new laptop for work and want it to be light, first and foremost. I have a natural bias to Sony products so this... Read More
Sony has announced the RX1, a full frame compact digital camera. With a full frame sensor, the camera puts out a massive 24.3MP resolution. Coupled with a fixed Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 lens, the images from the camera should be outstanding. The camera can take up to 25,600 ISO images. I'm sure the images will be quite stunning. The camera sports a nice 3"... Read More
Sony has announced a very attractive sub-compact with a 20.2 megapixel 1" CMOS chip. The Cybershot RX100 comes with a 28-100mm lens with an aperture range of 1.8-4.9. Although the lens is a Carl Zeiss, I do think that it could have been better (the 4.9 at the top end of the range isn't the best). But with a 1" sensor, the quality of... Read More
When Sony finally announced that they were launching their tablet, I had high hopes. Although the specs didn’t exactly blow me out of the water, I thought that Sony releasing a tablet had to be a pretty good product. So I bought one. Form The S tablet (aside: I think Sony could have thought of a better name than just a letter)... Read More
Sony introduced a pair of digital recording binoculars. Not only were these digital, but they were capable of recording the image and doing it in 3D. I love binoculars and even better, these high tech ones sounded like a fantastic marriage of good glass and digital technology. So I was pretty keen to try one out. I was by a Sony store recently and... Read More
Personal viewing glasses are one of those things that sounds so cool. I’ve had 3 in my time – many, many years ago. While they were cool, they gave me a splitting headache, was generally heavy, and had poor battery life. So their eventual demise was no surprise. Over the years, a few models have emerged trying to revamp interest in this product. I... Read More
Just in time for Christmas, Sony has launched the PS Vita, the next generation Playstation portable. Although to a large extent, it looks a lot like the old PSP, I like that the Vita comes with a better resolution, touch screen and importantly an interactive back panel. The games have gotten even better and the preview for the Unchartered game looks very impressive. I... Read More
To me, the Sony PSP is one of the most sought after gadgets for sometime. I remember buying my first Nintendo Famicom game console when I was about 6 years old. I was so excited. Since then, I've owned practically every single game console. I'm not a real game fanatic though. I don't sit for hours every night finishing the latest games and in... Read More
