Sony has announced the RX1, a full frame compact digital camera. With a full frame sensor, the camera puts out a massive 24.3MP resolution. Coupled with a fixed Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 lens, the images from the camera should be outstanding. The camera can take up to 25,600 ISO images. I'm sure the images will be quite stunning. The camera sports a nice 3"... Read More
Panasonic has announced an update to their fantastic LX line-up, the new LX7. Panasonic has increased its sensor to a 1/1.7-inch 10.1-megapixel chip. However, this doesn't seem like a vast improvement in technology especially when others like the new Sony RX100 has a full 1" CMOS 20.2 megapixel sensor. In addition, the form factor looks too similar to all the previous LX lineup. Sure, its... Read More
Sony has announced a very attractive sub-compact with a 20.2 megapixel 1" CMOS chip. The Cybershot RX100 comes with a 28-100mm lens with an aperture range of 1.8-4.9. Although the lens is a Carl Zeiss, I do think that it could have been better (the 4.9 at the top end of the range isn't the best). But with a 1" sensor, the quality of... Read More
In addition to the Leica M Monochrom, Leica also announced the upgrade of its X series camera with the updated X2. The main difference seems to be a 16MP APS-C sensor. Leica also says they made some improvements, especially to the Autofocus system, which had been one of the key issues with the X1. I do wish they had put in a better or... Read More
I'm a huge fan of the Leica M series, and I do wish I were a better photographer so I could really use it well. Leica has introduced the Leica M Monochrom, which is an M-series camera that takes B&W photos only. By not seeing colors, Leica states its pixels only see "true luminance values", which I take to mean looks really sharp. I'm... Read More
Leica is poised to introduce the very sexy White Leica M9-P in June. There are only 50 pieces made and from what I read, its a Japan-Only product. The major downside though is the cost, expected to be around 2.6m Yen or something like US$32k. That's a pretty crazy amount of money for a Leica. It does come with the amazing 50mm Noctilux lens... Lytro Camera So this company Lytro has come up with a very novel camera that takes a whole new approach to taking pictures. Using a new idea of capturing an image, the camera (if you can call it that as it looks very little like a camera) allows one to take an image and then process it on a Mac. The edited image...
