Panasonic has announced an update to their fantastic LX line-up, the new LX7. Panasonic has increased its sensor to a 1/1.7-inch 10.1-megapixel chip. However, this doesn’t seem like a vast improvement in technology especially when others like the new Sony RX100 has a full 1″ CMOS 20.2 megapixel sensor. In addition, the form factor looks too similar to all the previous LX lineup. Sure, its been a good design, but I just feel it needed a revamp . As someone who’s had both the LX3 and the LX5, as well as the Leica variants, I was hoping for a better “refresh” of the design. The Sony RX100, while sporting an arguably weaker lens (LX7: 28-90mm f1.4-2.3 versus RX100: 28-100mm f1.4-4.9) has kicked up the tech factor with a big sensor and a really small form factor. It should be an interesting fight.
