There were some fairly impressive watches announced at BaselWorld 2012. There was a lot of remakes but a few new models caught my eye.
Among the new watches, the Rolex Sky-Dweller looked the most interesting to me. A 42mm Annual Calendar and GMT, this is a new design for Rolex and certainly their most complicated watch.
Among “crazy” watches, I think the Christophe Claret X-Trem 1 looks… well… crazy! But I like it. Retrograde Hours/Minutes display using floating metal balls with a 60-second Tourbillon at the bottom shows the seconds.
Many went with limited or just upgrades of existing models. These were my favorite notables:
Harry Winston Ocean Sport Chronograph Limited Edition: While the initial Sport Chronography was impressive, this one is even more so made from a material called Zalium which is supposed to be super-light and more scratch resistant.
The Tag Heur Carrera Calibre 17 80th Birthday Limited Edition: a remake of the classic Carrera Chronograph.
Others like Patek went more subtle with a “white” version of their Nautilus.
Lange updated their Lange 1 with more complications: the Lange 1 Tourbillon Annual Calendar
All of these are likely to cost a fortune, but they do look impressive.
theVooner says: The watch remains one of the few jewelry pieces for men, so make sure you own a few good ones!
Moo Posted on Thanks John.Do you think it will really take 3-5 yrs for a SS veirosn of this to be released? I don’t understand why it would take so long?I can understand if they need to make a new watch using the same calibre, but if using the same desing, hands etc surely an SS veirosn should be relatively’ quick (maybe 3-5 yrs is quick in Rolex time )
